Three Tuns Haunting in Sheffield

My Father who was born in 1928, told me a story of what happened to him when he was a child. His family lived on Silver Head Street next to what was then a smaller public house, that's now called the Three Tuns. The Public House has at some time since been extended and now incorporates his old family home and the ghost stories at that location are legendary in the local area.

He was born in that house and lived there until he was eight years old and during the last couple of years at the house his mother use to send him down ito the cellar. The purpose of his trips down into the dark was to put another penny in the meter and this chore was something he still remembers vividly almost eighty years later.

The cold atmosphere of the cellar, the strange other worldly murmurs and moans, but most of all the touch of a hand on his shoulder and then long icy fingers stretching down the back of his neck. This always happened at exactly the same spot as he moved through the doorway between the two cellar rooms and had hastened him quickly on his way to and back from delivering the penny.

His mother although not showing any great interest in his claims, that there was something strange down in the cellar, always sent him and she never ventured down into the dark herself.

Was the language the ghost was speaking Latin, was this the infamous Nun, referred to in so many of the stories surrounding the Three Tuns, you will have to decide.

My interest in the horror and macabre, didn't come from my Father or that story, because he told me the tale for the first time just a few weeks ago.

But here are three of the comic book narratives that I set in Sheffield...
