Horror Cult Films Review Carnacki & Hannay

Carnacki & Hannay, two domain free characters are brought together in the UFO mystery set in Eyam, the Derbyshire Plague Village and Horror Cult Films have taken a look at the comic.

Here's an extract from their review
"...combines fact with science fiction to produce an engaging story that has roots in the real-life plague village of Eyam, Derbyshire. Daley spices things up with sighted U.F.O’s and... like the other comics in CD Comics collection, Daley uses the mystery angle to encourage readers to help discover the comic’s secrets as the protagonists do."

For the full review see http://horrorcultfilms.co.uk/2013/03/carnacki-hannay-issue-one-eyam-the-plague-village/

Here's a bit of spice relating to UFO sightings that appaers in the 37 page full colour comic, during a mystery that takes them from Eyam to Sheffield.

The comic is available priced around $1.99/£1.40 from the following download websites

Horror Cult Film Reviews Robin Hood 2020

Bat, the Web-Mistress gives CDComics Robin Hood 2020 the Horror Cult Film review treatment.

Here's few comments...
"This comic about a group fighting back, in a time where people seem more preoccupied with the world of celebrity and who’s winning X Factor, is a much needed breathe of fresh air and satires the current world we live in. Though the comic is quite serious in nature, the story does include a bit of dry wit... This is certainly a different take for Daley but an enjoyable and thought-provoking one and I look forward to seeing what information is uncovered in the future comic."

Nottingham Goose Fair short story

The Beggar Tramp: A short story for the Nottingham Goose Fair

For the last seven hundred years he has stood in the centre of the crowd and watched the people going about their business. On just this one day every year he has returned to watch and always the beggar tramp goes unnoticed.

He has seen houses around the castle turn from wood to stone, taller and taller buildings springing up with each return visit as Nottingham has slowly transformed from a medieval town into the city it is today. His eyes open as the stalls are laid out and the trader set out their wares and he sees the first eager customers arrive clutching their well earned wealth, whether to barter or now to buy.

The traders shouting out their prices and offering their bargain deals as they look to make a profit on the day and try to shift their stock. Groups of girls giggling as they share a joke no one else has heard, the even louder boys arguing over the some choice that has been made or the price a trader is asking. The children have always run and played, the Mother’s weighed down with goods struggling to catch up, while Father pays for another purchase. The clergyman moving slowly through the crowd, his pace slow and steady, his interest in the goods only fleeting as he shows us all, he is somehow above all of this. The singer with the guitar plays another song and sitting next to his hat that has only a few coins inside is his tired old dog, looking up with sad eyes for sympathy.

The bartering is no more and even the sound of coins being shuffled has lessened as the swipe of plastic and an electronic beep takes centre stage. The sellers of alabaster statues have long since gone, the traders of lace, fine cloth and textiles no longer flourish, replaced by plastics and token gifts to mark the day, but there is still the smell of cheese and there is always the Goose.

Another year comes and goes, the daylight fades and the crowds thin, many leaving with bags full and wallets empty. Then as the Nottingham Goose Fair closes, the traders pack away and shut up their stalls and the beggar tramp simply disappears for another year.

He is a marker of the passage of time, the unchanging unnoticed sight in a not so changing world, the beggar tramp we all ignore as we go about our business.

Robin Hood Sheffield or Nottingham?

Nottingham has long held claim to the ownership of the Robin Hood legend, but early historical references have Robin coming from the village of Loxley. Loxley is now a district within Sheffield's city boundaries and is just east of Hillsborough. Sheffield's claim is also supported by historical documents linking Little John to Barnsley, that borders Sheffield to the North.

CDComics previously reclaimed the Victorian bogeyman, Spring Heeled Jack from the Penny Dreadfuls of London and with the release of Robin Hood 2020 are reclaiming the outlaw who steals from the rich to give to the poor and have set the narrative just seven years into a dystopian future.
Robin Hood 2020 is available to download from the various websites listed below, priced around $1.99/£1.50UK or Euro equivalent and is a 32 page full colour first issue of an ongoing title from CDComics.

Robin Hood 2020 is also available locally on CDrom with JPEG and PDF versions of this first issue packaged in a slimline DVD case with a wrap around cover priced £2.50 from the following shops.

Sheffield Space Centre on the Wicker, Broomhill's Galaxy 4 and Record Collector, Rare and Racey on Devonshire Green, Blackwells on Mappin Street, the Funhouse in Woodseats and the Front Counter of the Sheffield Star on York Street.

CDComics has been up and running longest on Amazon, having had the first title on sale for more than a year, the other sites listed below have slowly come on line in the last 10 months. All 12 titles are available to download, but some of the websites below still don't have all 12 listed.

Most pleasing is that more than 50% of first issue readers are buying the second issues of the titles. Each comic costs around $1 or 75p UK (unless stated), and Canada and the USA make up 60% percent of sales. Also pleasing is that CDComics are well represented in the most recent Kobo Bestsellers Chart for Horror comics and for Crime & Mystery (2nd, 5th, 6th and 12th) http://www.kobobooks.com/browse/Crime__Mystery/B8eF6z2AjECkLbTTkFE57Q-1.html

Local sales on CDrom with multiple issue comics put together as Graphic Novels, priced £2.50 and packaged in slim line DVD cases are now way behind Internet sales.

The most popular title locally has been Meadowhell, selling 130+ CDrom Graphic Novels, with Spring Heeled Jack, packaged locally as 'The Attercliffe Prowler' coming a close second... While on the Internet Manhattan 1930 is selling best and this could be the US or possible the Nikola Tesla and Aleister Crowley influence.
